Episode 21: February 10, 2004 - Inuksuk 600 Michipicoten 610 (560)

So, the season's one-third done, now, is it...

First of all, I want to know how many of you thought that I would come on here all Don-Cherry like and blast the fact that a scoring error was allowed to take place. Well, my mind is on a 7-second delay...

And frankly, I think this game shows more than anything else that the system needs to be changed. The one thing that would have prevented this error is having somebody backstage with a clipboard and a scorecard keeping track of the score independently of the scorekeeper that would confirm the score at each break and correct it if an error was made.

Also, a lot of people came to me asking about the judging in tonight's game. Personally, I think the judges were firm and although a few people thought it was harsh, it was fair to both teams. One other thing I would suggest: Teams should be asked to be more specific in untimed rounds (20, 50, DHD), but they should be cautioned prior to Smarterer and the LR's to be as specific as possible (due to the timing issue).

Okay, now onto the game.

Michipicoten was very strong during Smarterer, but other than that they were very mediocre. Inuksuk did have some great moments, but they definitely needed to keep calm, especially during the Lightning Round -- Nanauq's reaction to the wrong answer of "Greek" really showed that he needed to keep his cool.

Other than that, I really found that this was an ugly game. There were a bunch of wrong answers and passed questions. I found this disappointing for a game with an Ontario provincial Reach school playing a team with 2 returning players (including a returning All-Star). Therefore, I have to say that even though the wrong team did advance, I really don't know if the right team deserved the win either...
